## Setup
- API key: `claude mcp add --scope user --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" --transport http context7 https://mcp.context7.com/mcp`.
- OAuth instead: use `https://mcp.context7.com/mcp/oauth`, then `/mcp` in Claude Code and choose Authenticate. OAuth works over HTTP only.
- Local stdio alternative: `claude mcp add --scope user context7 -- npx -y @upstash/context7-mcp --api-key YOUR_API_KEY`.
- One-command setup: `npx ctx7 setup` (Node.js 18+) signs in, generates a key and installs the skill.
- A free key comes from context7.com/dashboard.


## Limits
- Free plan: 1,000 API calls a month, then blocked except for 20 bonus calls a day. Pro is $10 per seat a month with 2,000 calls per seat, then $5 per 1,000.
- Private repositories are Pro and Enterprise only.
- Library docs are community-contributed; Context7 doesn't guarantee their accuracy, so verify version-sensitive claims against the vendor too.
